The Lambton Colliery opened in December 1863 and closed in 1936, and the suburb was its own municipality from 1871 until it joined the City of Newcastle in 1938. Lambton Park is the heart of it: about 14 hectares with Lambton Ker-rai Creek running through, a playground, picnic areas, two ovals, tennis courts, an 1890 rotunda and the 1918 Memorial Gates.
The branch library sits in the park grounds in the old council chambers, built in 1887, and its front was restored in 2022. Lambton Park War Memorial Swimming Centre opened in 1963 with a heated 50 metre pool, and City of Newcastle is planning a year-round indoor pool on the same site.
Housing is a mix of older homes from the mining years and streets built in the 1990s on the old drive-in theatre land, and the local shops run along Elder Street.
The support workers at Glenrock Support, a registered NDIS provider, know Lambton well, from the park to the back streets. NDIS Lambton support with us can start at 6am and finish as late as 10pm, any day of the week.
NDIS Lambton: support at home and around the park
In your home, support means personal care and daily living, plus cleaning and household tasks when your plan covers them. Around the suburb, a support worker can come to the pool, the library or a picnic by the creek.
We don't do support coordination, plan management, therapy or overnight care, and we say that early.
