NDIS provider Wallsend

Wallsend is where our team is based, so most of our support workers know its streets, its bus stops and which shop doors open on their own. We work in homes across the suburb and out in the community, seven days a week.

Support in Wallsend

When your provider is based a few streets away, a support worker is never stuck behind an hour of traffic on the way to your door.

Wallsend grew up as a coal mining town, and the older streets near the town centre still have weatherboard cottages, many with a few steps up to the front door and a bathroom out the back. Around the edges, the newer estates in Maryland have wider hallways and single-level homes, and there are townhouses and units close to Cowper Street.

Wallsend Village, on the corner of Cowper and Kokera Streets, has Coles and ALDI on one level, which makes a weekly shop easier to plan. Wallsend Library on Bunn Street was refurbished in 2022 and is Newcastle Libraries' biggest branch.

Ironbark Creek runs through the town centre, and the 2007 Pasha Bulker storm flooded it badly, so on a wet day we check the low streets before we head out. Several Newcastle Transport routes, including the 23, 24, 26, 27, 42 and 46, start or finish in Wallsend.

Glenrock Support is a registered NDIS provider based in Wallsend. Looking for NDIS support in Wallsend? Our support workers start most days a few minutes from your door, 6am to 10pm, seven days.

NDIS Wallsend: what support looks like with us

Most of it sits in Core supports: personal care and help at home, cleaning and household tasks and outings to the library on Bunn Street, Wallsend Village or Brickworks Park. To try a group, see building skills and joining groups.

What support looks like around Wallsend

  • Mining-era cottages near the town centre

Personal care in older homes where the shower is over a bath and the back steps are steep, planned so nobody rushes on a wet morning.

  • Newer homes in Maryland

Help with meals, washing and getting out from the estates, where the shops and the bus are a drive away rather than a walk.

  • Units and townhouses near Cowper Street

Household tasks and a weekly shop at Wallsend Village for people who live close enough to walk or roll to Coles with a support worker.

They're ten minutes away, the office rang back the same afternoon, and the service agreement was short enough that we actually read it.

Questions about Wallsend

Can't see your question? Ring and ask a person. A team leader answers, Monday to Friday.

Is your Wallsend office open for walk-ins?

No. We see people at the office by appointment only, because almost all of our support happens in homes and out in the community. Call (02) 5550 6138 during office hours, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm, and we will set a time that suits you.

Can my support worker take me to the Wallsend pool?

Yes. City of Newcastle has added an accessible change room at Wallsend Swimming Centre. When we last checked, entry to the pool was by steps with a handrail and there was no hoist, so we talk through how you get in and out before the first visit.

Do you help in the older cottages near Wallsend's main street?

Yes, and a lot of our work is there. Many of these homes have steps at the front and a narrow bathroom at the back. Your support worker works with the home as it is, and if a rail or a ramp would help, we suggest you talk to your occupational therapist, because home changes are not something we do.

What happens to my shifts in Wallsend when Ironbark Creek floods?

We call you before the shift. If the streets near the creek are under water, your safety and your support worker's come first, so we move the visit or meet you somewhere else. We never ask a worker to drive through floodwater.

Is there a playground near Wallsend that works for my wheelchair?

Brickworks Park has a carousel set level with the ground and paved paths through the play area. The Wallsend Active Hub at Federal Park also has an all-abilities carousel.

Do you have room for new participants in Wallsend right now?

On weekdays we usually do, because Wallsend is our home suburb. Weekends can take a little longer to line up. The capacity line on this page shows what's open right now.
